November 23, 2016 is

National Espresso Day

It’s National Espresso Day! Luigi Bezzera invented the espresso coffee machine in Italy in 1901. His objective was to decrease his employees' coffee break time and increase their productivity! Bezzera's machine used steam pressure to force hot water through the finely ground coffee. This allowed coffee to be prepared quickly, on demand, and by the cup. The resulting brew of coffee was also stronger in flavor and body. Bezzera's patent was sold in 1903 to Desidero Pavoni who began commercially producing and distributing the espresso machine throughout Europe. 

Today, espresso is a popular drink in cafés all around the world. Celebrate National Espresso Day by purchasing a cup of espresso at your favorite coffee shop or make your own using an espresso coffee machine like the one Luigi Bezzera invented!

Celebrate International Girls Day on November, 14th

National Pizza With Everything (Except Anchovies) Day

It’s National Pizza with Everything (Except Anchovies) Day! Today is the official day to order your pizza with the works (anchovies not required). Pizza is a direct descendant of the flatbread people made before the advent of the oven. Neolithic humans would build a fire on a flat rock to create a hearth. When it was piping hot, they brushed away the coals and laid a layer of dough across it. The baked bread was then topped with seeds or spices.
National Pizza With Everything (Except Anchovies) Day celebrates all of the different toppings you can put on your pizza to suit your tastes and preferences. Although having fish on a pizza isn't the worst thing in the world, the saltiness of the anchovies can mask all of the other delicious flavors. Order your pizza today with all of your favorite toppings, but keep it anchovy-free!

Origin of Forget Me Not Day:

We did not find the originator of this special day. Nor, did we find nay factual information. We find it strange, that the creator of  has been "forgotten".

We did find organizations, mayors and other officials who have proclaimed a "Forget Me Not Day". They were declared for a wide range of reasons and were celebrated, largely as a one time event, on many different dates.

We did not find any documentation confirming this to be a "National" day. We found no congressional records or presidential proclamation.

National Scrapple Day

It’s National Scrapple Day! Scrapple, or pon haus, is similar in both composition and taste to British white pudding. Its name comes from the fact that it is composed of “scraps” of pork combined with cornmeal and spices. The mixture is formed into a mostly solid loaf, and then it is sliced and panfried before serving.

Did you know that scrapple is arguably the first pork food invented in America? It was created more than 200 years ago by Dutch colonists who settled near Philadelphia.

Scrapple is typically eaten for breakfast, topped with syrup or ketchup. In some regions of the United States, it is mixed with scrambled eggs. Enjoy National Scrapple Day!

National Nachos Day

It’s National Nachos Day! Nachos are a popular Mexican dish that can be served as a snack, appetizer, or main course. The perfect recipe for nachos includes a huge plate of stacked tortilla chips topped with lots of melted cheese, salsa, sour cream, jalapenos, and guacamole!
Nachos originated in the city of Piedras Negras, Mexico. One night in 1943, the wives of ten U.S. soldiers stationed at Fort Duncan arrived at a restaurant called Victory Club after it had already closed for the evening. Restaurant employee Ignacio "Nacho" Anaya quickly put together what he had left in the kitchen for the women, and called the dish "Nachos Especiales." Word about this tasty treat quickly spread throughout Mexico and Texas. Anaya went on to open his own nacho restaurant and his original nacho recipe was printed in St. Anne's Cookbook in 1954.
Celebrate National Nachos Day by having a big plate stacked high with delicious nachos. Bake your own version or head to your local Mexican restaurant. Enjoy!

American Football Day

If you are a sports lover, Nov. 5  is a biggy. It’s American Football Day in the U.S.A!

26-year-old sports fan and son of an oil tycoon, Lamar Hunt, was just plain fed up! After repeated unsuccessful attempts to purchase a National Football League (NFL) franchise and bring professional football to the great state of Texas, Hunt decided to do something about it! On this day decades ago, Hunt launched a league of his own - theAmerican Football League (AFL). And soon after, on November 22, 1959, the first AFL draft occurred.

Lamar Hunt

Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1972, Hunt was also the co-founder of the Major League Soccer and World Championship Tennis. While American Football Day celebrates the founding of the AFL, Hunt’s entrepreneurial spirit and his love of sports made such an impact in the world of sports. Lamar Hunt died in 2006 at the age of 74.

It’s National Candy Day! Humans have been eating candies and sweet confections for thousands of years. The ancient Egyptians preserved nuts and fruits in honey, and the Aztecs and Mayans consumed chocolate during religious rituals as early as 300 AD.
Today, there are thousands of different types of candy, all with their own unique history. For example, did you know that Tootsie Rolls were created by Leo Hirshfield of New York in 1896? He named them after his daughter, who was nicknamed "Tootsie." The average American eats twenty-five pounds of candy each year. That may seem like a lot, but the average person in Denmark eats thirty-six pounds each year!
Whether you like chocolate, caramels, hard candy, or marzipan, treat yourself to something delicious to celebrate National Candy Day!
